The fifth and final edition of our meet the players series sees us finish with three favourites of the squad: Sujith Gowda, Usman Rafiq and Tanveer Sangha.

Sujith Gowda

Minor League maestro Gowda scored over 1000 runs in 30 matches for the Dallas Mustangs. Could this translate into match-winning runs for Washington Freedom?

Great at finding the fence, those 1000 runs included exactly 150 boundaries. But Gowda has more to offer than just batting prowess. His off spin took 12 wickets making him a more than useful option with the ball.

Not just a cricketer, Gowda majored in engineering at the University of Texas, but will be looking to hit fours instead of earning a 4.0 GPA on his return to the state for Major League Cricket.

Usman Rafiq

Our wildcard domestic signing, Rafiq is an offspin bowler who has represented the United States of America’s on five occasions.

Rafiq’s Minor League record for the Houston Hurricanes is exceptional. Across 31 matches, he’s taken 40 wickets at an average of 16 and an economy rate of just 6.60. He’s also more than handy with the bat, averaging 20.32 with a strike-rate of 143. In 24 innings, he’s hit 24 sixes.

A player with a habit of producing the spectacular, against the St.Louis Americans he once took four wickets in four balls. Sixes and wickets, what more could you ask for?

Tanveer Sangha

Sangha, 21, is incredibly highly thought of within Australian cricketing circles and has featured in multiple national development squads after making his debut in the Big Bash for Sydney Thunder at just 19-years-old.

A leg spinner who has a bright future in all formats of the game, he has an exceptional T20 record, having taken 37 wickets in just 28 matches. He averages 18.43 with the ball and has a fantastic economy rate of 7.46. His phenomenal performances in the Big Bash led to him receiving a deal in The Hundred with Birmingham Phoenix last year, before injury ruled him out of the entire Australian summer.

We look forward to Sangha pulling on the red, white and blue of Washington Freedom and continuing his rise to stardom as one of the most exciting young spinners in the world.
