To celebrate one week until the launch of the inaugural edition of Major League Cricket, MLC Co-Founders Vijay Sriniavasan and Sameer Mehta were joined by representatives from all six teams to ring the historic New York Stock Exchange closing bell.
Representing Washington Freedom was our very own Avikar Govil who runs the team’s commercial operations. Govil was present at the Stock Exchange alongside a number of high profile players including San Francisco Unicorn’s Shadab Khan, MI New York’s Tim David and LA Knight Riders’ Lockie Ferguson.
The ringing of the bell to signify the opening and closing of the New York Stock Exchange goes back to the 1870s, with the bell rung each day at 4pm EST to signal the end of the day’s trading. Since the 1980s, it has been a regular occurrence to have special guests do the honour and today it was the turn of American cricket.
MLC is set to kick-off next week on July 13 at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas before the competition moves on to Morrisville, North Carolina. Washington Freedom’s first fixture will take place against Seattle Orcas on Friday 14th July.
