Washington Freedom scripted one of the greatest victories in T20 history, chasing down a mammoth 267 to defeat MI New York by six wickets in a breathtaking Eliminator at the Oakland Coliseum. In a night that shattered records, Andries Gous and Steven Smith produced centuries of the highest quality to power Freedom into the Challenger.

Asked to bowl first, Freedom found themselves under immense pressure as Nicholas Pooran blazed his way to a 31-ball century, the fastest in Major League Cricket history, while Kieron Pollard added a typically explosive 64 to propel MI New York to 266/9.

With the innings threatening to spiral beyond reach, Rachin Ravindra delivered a spell that proved decisive. The New Zealand all-rounder claimed four wickets, repeatedly breaking crucial partnerships and ensuring Freedom pulled the innings back after MI New York looked set to push well beyond 280. Ben Dwarshuis also chipped in with two wickets as Freedom limited the damage during the closing overs.

Our chase couldn't have begun in more difficult fashion. Shakib Al Hasan struck twice with the new ball, leaving Freedom reeling at 10/2 and staring at an almost impossible task.

What followed was a comeback for the ages.

Andries Gous and Steven Smith took complete control, dismantling the bowling attack with fearless strokeplay and remarkable composure. The pair added a staggering 241 runs for the third wicket from just 89 deliveries, the joint second-highest partnership in T20 history.

Gous was at his devastating best, smashing 132 from only 56 balls to become the first USA batter to score an MLC century. At the other end, Smith matched him stride for stride, remaining unbeaten on a magnificent 110 from 52 deliveries as the chase gathered unstoppable momentum.

Freedom crossed the target with eight balls to spare, completing the highest successful run chase in T20 history in spectacular fashion. On a night that featured three centuries and a record 51 sixes, it was Washington Freedom who stood tallest.

The victory sends Freedom into the Challenger, where San Francisco Unicorns await for a place in the Major League Cricket final.
