Washington Freedom were unable to make it three wins in a row, falling 18 runs short in their chase of 193 against the Los Angeles Knight Riders in Dallas.

After opting to bowl first, we made an encouraging start with Saurabh Netravalkar striking in the opening over. LA Knight Riders recovered through Andre Fletcher and Matthew Tromp, whose century partnership for the third wicket put the innings back on track after the hosts reached 59/2 in the Powerplay. Netravalkar returned to claim two more wickets in the 16th over to finish with figures of 3/33, while Ben Dwarshuis and Mitch Owen picked up two wickets apiece as Knight Riders closed on 192/8.

Our chase faced an early setback as we slipped to 41/3 in the Powerplay. Lahiru Milantha and Andries Gous responded brilliantly, adding 71 runs for the fourth wicket in just 44 deliveries to breathe life back into the contest. Milantha struck a fluent 40 from 25 deliveries, while Gous made 37 off 24 to keep the required rate within reach.

The turning point came in the 14th over when both set batters were dismissed in quick succession. Andre Russell, Ali Khan and Sunil Narine tightened the screws, while Shadley van Schalkwyk returned to claim two crucial wickets in his final over as the chase slipped away from us. We eventually finished on 174/8, with LA Knight Riders registering their first-ever victory over Washington Freedom.

The defeat drops Freedom to fifth in the standings, but the turnaround is quick. Back-to-back fixtures on Saturday and Sunday provide an immediate chance to bounce back and strengthen our playoff push.
