ODI debuts for Matt Short and Tanveer Sangha the highlights as Freedom players continue to impress across the globe.

It’s been another busy fortnight for Freedom’s cricketers with several impressing on international duty, the return of the Australian home summer and Minor League Cricket building to its conclusion.

The most exciting news from the past two weeks has been Matt Short and Tanveer Sangha making their ODI debuts for Australia. The pair made their T20I debuts against South Africa last month and have since added ODI caps to their name as well. Neither have been selected for Australia’s full World Cup squad, however could be called up as injury replacements.

Freedom will have two representatives at the World Cup in India in the shape of Glenn Phillips for New Zealand and Marco Jansen for South Africa. Jansen put in a particularly impressive performance in his most recent international appearance, where he scored 47 from 23 deliveries an claimed his best ODI figures of 5-39.

There has, however, been bitterly disappointing news for our quick bowlers Anrich Nortje and Adam Milne. Nortje sustained a back injury that has ruled him out of the World Cup, with Milne also missing out on selection after a hamstring injury had ruled him out of the ODI series against England.

Closer to home, Minor League Cricket has reached the play-off rounds with four Freedom players: Andries Gous, Sujith Gowda, Obus Pienaar and Saurabh Netravalkar involved. Gous and Netravalkar have particularly impressed, with Gous the fourth leading run scorer in the competition with 370 runs at an average of 46. Whilst Netravalkar has taken 16 wickets at a stunning average of 13. Gous and Gowda are representing the Dallas Mustangs, whilst Pienaar is playing for Atlanta Fire and Netravalkar representing the Silicon Valley Strikers.

Finally, we wish all the best to our partners Cricket New South Wales, who began their season in Australia with a six-wicket win over Tasmania. Our captain fantastic Moises Henriques, who has also returned to captaincy for the Blues this season, finished the chase on 19 not out.
