Centuries for Moises Henriques and Matt Short back-up strong World Cup showings by Glenn Phillips and Marco Jansen

It’s been another successful fortnight for Washington Freedom players around the globe, with the World Cup starting, the beginning of the Australian domestic season and also the start of the Super50 Cup in the Caribbean.

Captain Moises Henriques registered a 72-ball century for New South Wales in the Marsh Cup against South Australia, in turn breaking the record for the fastest ever century for New South Wales. Meanwhile, Matt Short had what must’ve been what the best weeks of his life, as he scored a century in the Sheffield Shield, a century in the Marsh Cup, and got engaged. Everyone at Washington Freedom sends their best wishes to Matt and his new fiancée Madi.

Freedom’s two World Cup representatives Glenn Phillips and Marco Jansen have had strong starts to their tournament, with Phillips picking up a number of key wickets across New Zealand’s four matches as well as contributing with 71 against Afghanistan. Meanwhile, Jansen had the performance of a lifetime against England, where he smashed 75 not out off 42 balls, before taking 2-35 with the ball. In total, Jansen has taken eight wickets in four matches at an average of 26.

Finally, with the start of the Super50 Cup in the Caribbean, our left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein is in action for Trinidad & Tobago, with his team starting the competition with a six-wicket win over the Windward Islands.
