Rain forces final preparations inside

Heavy rain forced Washington Freedom’s final training session before their fixture against LA Knight Riders indoors.

The best teams adapt, and Washington Freedom were forced to do that one day out from their first match at Church Street Park, Morrisville, as the rain made conditions outside unplayable.

The plan for Freedom had been to have a bowling and fielding session on the outfield at Morrisville in order to get accustomed to the ground, where they will be playing three fixtures in four days.

Rain had been forecast, however settled in far more than expected and forced the training session indoors to the nearby SAMP ARMY sports complex.

“It’s unfortunate, but you can never control the weather,” said Freedom General Manager Michael Klinger. “What we can control, however, is back-up plans and know that we have a great group of professionals who are able to adapt and still get the best preparation they can ahead of what are three really important fixtures.”

All players participated in the session, with some such as Obus Pienaar taking part in range hitting practice led by coach Cameron White. Whilst the likes of Saurabh Netravalkar and Justin Dill practiced their death-bowling skills.

Freedom take-on LA Knight Riders tomorrow, with the match starting at 5:30pm Eastern Time.
