Our star Kiwi batter reflected on a successful inaugural edition of Major League Cricket.

New Zealand international and Washington Freedom batter Glenn Phillips was full of praise for Major League Cricket’s first year, saying that it’s a competition he’d “definitely be keen” to return to.

“I think it’s going places,” Phillips said shortly after Freedom’s campaign had come to an end. “It’s been a lot of fun going to Morrisville and being in Dallas. There’s been good facilities, great competition, the local talent has been amazing as well.”

Phillips was a star of the Freedom set-up and impressed with the bat and in the field. His best innings came against MI New York, where he made 47 off 35 balls, including three sixes. However, his most spectacular contribution came in the field, when he took two incredible catches against San Francisco Unicorns in a vital win.

“The group’s been amazing,” continued Phillips. “That team first mentality has been key for us and got us through to the Eliminator where unfortunately we didn’t play our best cricket but that’s okay. We went out there and tried to do everything for each other, we tried to take it as deep as the last over and we had a shot.

“All the boys gelled together, it’s been a special time. I’d definitely be keen to come back.”
