Asif Mehmood began his professional cricket journey in Pakistan, building his foundation on a demanding and competitive domestic circuit. He made his List A debut in February 2015 for the Hyderabad Hawks and later became a steady presence for regional powerhouses like Sindh. Armed with reliable pace, natural swing, and a knack for crucial breakthroughs, including a memorable hat-trick during the 2022 National T20 Cup, Asif showed immense early potential. However, after 2022, his appearances in major senior domestic formats slowed, leaving his career at a crossroads.

His career found a vital spark in August 2025 when he was selected to represent the Pakistan Shaheens (the Pakistan 'A' team) in the Top End T20 Series held in Northern Territory, Australia. Testing his skills in foreign conditions, Asif excelled on the bouncy Australian tracks. He spearheaded the Shaheens' bowling attack and helping lead his team to the championship title. This brilliant overseas stint instantly put him back under the spotlight of major franchise scouts.

The year 2026 brought a definitive breakthrough when he was signed by the newly minted Hyderabad Kingsmen franchise for the expanded Pakistan Super League. In April 2026, Asif enjoyed a fairytale debut against Islamabad United. He tore through the opposition's lineup to claim a sensational 4-wicket haul (4/18). This devastating spell instantly cemented his role as the franchise's premier strike bowler, ultimately helping the team secure a historic playoff spot in their debut season.

His spectacular performances in the sub-continent quickly opened doors on the global franchise circuit. Later in 2026, he caught the attention of international selectors and was signed by Washington Freedom to compete in the prestigious Major League Cricket (MLC) tournament in the United States.
