Futures Win Over Hudson Valley Puts Them in First Place of Division
The Washington Freedom Futures defeated the Hudson Valley Lady Blues 2-1 Saturday night.This Freedom victory was the first regular loss for the Lady Blues since their start in the W-League in 2009.
The game was a constant battle throughout between the two teams. The first goal came when Freedom Midfielder Julia Bouchelle played a long ball over the Hudson Valley back line to Forward Omolyn Davis.
Three Freedom Futures Named to W-League Team of the Week
Washington Freedom Futures Molly Menchel, Meghan Lenczyk and Shannon Foley were all selected for the W-League Team of the Week. Menchel scored the game winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Long Island, and Lenczyk and Foley each notched 2 goals in the 5-0 win against Hampton Roads.
Freedom Futures Earn Two Wins in a Successful Home Weekend
Washington Freedom Futures had a successful home weekend with two shut-out wins over the Long Island Rough Riders on Friday, June 11th at 7pm and the Hampton Roads Piranhas on Sunday, June 13th at 6pm.
Hayley Seigel Selected for W-League Team of the Week
Washington Freedom Futures Midfielder Hayley Seigel was selected for the Team of the Week this week after an important goal in the 2-0 win over the NY Magic last Saturday.
The Washington Freedom Futures defeated New York Magic in a 2-0 win on Saturday June 5, 2010 at the Maryland SoccerPlex. Center Midfielder Hayley Seigel notched her first goal of the season, along with a penalty kick scored by Captain Defender Julie Lancos.
Washington's Omolyn Davis Named Player of the Week
United Soccer Leagues announced the W-League Team of the Week today, honoring Omolyn Davis of the Washington Freedom Futures as the player of the week for her two-goal performance against the New Jersey Wildcats.
The Washington Freedom has always had a commitment to the development of young players around the area and as in past years, that commitment has shown it’s worth in 2010. The Freedom Futures will showcase no fewer than 5 of those players who have been involved in the Freedom system for a number of years.
The rain stopped just in time for the 6 pm kick-off at the Maryland Soccerplex where the Washington Freedom Futures won their season opener in a 3-0 victory over the New Jersey Rangers. Fortuna Velaj opened her account with the Freedom with two goals and former Freedom youth player Julia Roberts scored one in her first game with the Futures.
The Freedom Futures add a number of new players from the nation’s finest universities for 2010.The Futures continue to build on their strong relationships with players from various colleges and universities around the country.
The Freedom Futures are building their team on a familiar foundation by adding some veteran players from the last few campaigns. The Futures, then known just as the Washington Freedom, finished the season with a record of 15-2-1 after winning the Eastern Conference Championship and then falling short in the Championship Game to Pali Blues 2-1 at the Maryland SoccerPlex. Looking to build upon the team’s success in 2009, the Freedom starts 2010 with a new name, new logo, new sponsor and some familiar faces.
Becky Edwards, Katie Schoepfer, Mara Osher and Caitlin Miskel were all a part of the 2009 Washington Freedom W-League team that finished as league runner up. Six months later, after successful senior seasons in college, all four have been drafted into the WPS. Edwards was picked up by FC Gold Pride, Schoepfer was drafted by Sky Blue FC while Osher and Miskel were taken by the Freedom.
Washington Freedom renames W-League Team the Freedom Futures
BOYDS, MD – November 25, 2009 - The Washington Freedom of Women’s Professional Soccer has officially renamed its W-League team. The W-league team, which plays in the United Soccer League (USL W-League), has been changed from the Washington Freedom W-League to the Freedom Futures, a move made to reinforce the difference between the W-League team and the WPS first team, the Washington Freedom.
Molly Allen Named to Canadian U20 National Team Camp
The Canadian women’s U-20 team has announced that it will play a two game series against Mexico this 29 and 31 October in Juarez, Mexico. The two matches will follow a short training camp at the University of Texas El Paso. Freedom Defender Molly Allen has been named to the 24 player training camp.
United Soccer Leagues announced the top W-League honors for the 2009 season Wednesday, honoring the U19 Player of the Year, Defender of the Year, Coach of the Year and Most Valuable Player as voted on by the league’s coaches and general managers.

Freedom's Brown and Chang Named to All-Tournament Team
Following the completion of USL’s fourth annual Super-20 League Women’s Finals championed by two-time winner Triangle FC in Rockford, Illinois on Sunday, August 2 – USL has released the 2009 All-Tournament Team as voted by the coaches. The Washington Freedom had two players named to the team, Tiffany Brown and Brook Chang.
Freedom to face Pali Blues in W-League Championship

After winning three straight playoff games, the Washington Freedom (15-1-1) is one victory away from clinching their second W-League title in three years. The visiting Pali Blues (12-0-3), undefeated since joining the league last season, are looking to defend their 2008 championship.
