After winning three straight playoff games, the Washington Freedom (15-1-1) is one victory away from clinching their second W-League title in three years. The visiting Pali Blues (12-0-3), undefeated since joining the league last season, are looking to defend their 2008 championship.
Last week, the Freedom battled the Ottawa Fury to a scoreless tie through regulation and overtime. After two clutch saves from goalkeeper Chante Sandiford, the Freedom prevailed 3-1 in penalty kicks to secure a spot in the championship match. In the other semifinal, Pali cruised to a 4-0 victory over Hudson Valley Quickstrike.
The championship kicks off at 7:30 on Friday at the Maryland SoccerPlex and will be televised live on Fox Soccer Channel. Tickets are $10 and can be bought on game day.
