The Washington Freedom were victorious in the away leg of the DC area W-League Darby with the Northern Virginia Majestcis at Wakefield HS in Arlington, VA yesterday. The Freedom displayed some of its best soccer to date but again could not efficiently finish the numerous scoring chances they created. The first half the Freedom pinned the Majestics in their own half and were able to get 15 shots at Katherine Mistead. The Majestics could not get numbers forward to create any dangerous counter attacks but did look dangerous on set plays. The Majestics managed 2 shots in the half but Freedom goalkeeper Chante Sandiford did not need to make a save.
Ella Masar and Sarah Senty came on in the second half and Masar’s presence and Emily Janss’s quality cross provide the game’s only goal. The Freedom continued to possess the ball and create good scoring opportunities to try to put the game out of reach but could only settle for a 1-0 win. Chante Sandiford and the Freedom Defense posted their third consecutive shutout. The win puts the Freedom’s away record to an impressive 4-0.
“I am happy with the way we played today. The Majestics continue to be a difficult team to score on. I do think we played some of our best soccer today and at some point the goals will come.”—Head Coach Jim Gabarra
